The
Day of Nationals
‘’Bring Bring!” my alarm clock went. I screamed “Aspetuck Wildcats are at nationals and are going to win!” I hopped out of bed and ran to my parents’ room and started jumping on their bed “STOP!” they yelled. I sprinted to the couch. “Mom come take out my curlers,” I begged. She slowly walked toward the couch rubbing her eyes. She looked over at the clock.,It was 6:00 am.
I can go over and play with my friends,” I told her.
After all of my curlers were taken out, I was too nervous to go
over to play with Ella and Libby. My hands were
shaking and I had butterflies in my stomach.
After a little while my sister woke up and took out her curlers,by herself! She was being so calm (unlike me) “It’s time to go and pick up Libby and Ella so we can go to the competition!” In the car I prayed so much that my hands were stuck like that for a little while.
When we arrived at the place everyone was in the practice room stretching. Suddenly we heard “You guys are on. Don’t make any noise.” We jumped and laughed...quietly. We smiled and skipped on the stage where a thousand people were watching us. Then we waited for our music to come on. Suddenly, loud as
fireworks, our music blasted. We had started. Our tumbling and jumps were perfect. We did great.
“Wildcats!” we yelled and then hugged each other. My eyes were wide open and I was jumping up and down like no one was watching (even though a thousand people were). The whole crowd screamed and cheered for us. I felt I was ten feet tall.
Soon it was time for placing. We sat there waiting, but didn’t hear our name. It was so sad to see because we worked so hard to get there.
Well, we’ll still have next year and maybe we’ll win, I thought.
We really did our best. There was some really good competition at
nationals. I will never forget this. It was one of the best times of my life.
