Is It Worth It...
As the teacher said to line up for lunch Nick felt a funny feeling, like he was forgetting something. That’s when he heard it. Mrs.Dot said, “Get your school store money and line up for lunch.”
He lunged to his bag and dug down deep. He went so far he might have found China. Then he found the bag of change and in his mind said, let’s go. He got in line and talked to Marcus about how fun the school store was going to be. When they arrived at lunch, Nick sat down with Marcus and talked as if they had not talked in ages.
...
“We have arrived in supervision,” Nick murmured to Marcus so he could hear. They chowed down their food. “Hey, want to come to my house after school.” “Sure Marcus I will come”. “Cool, I got a new board game called the Family Feud”. “We can play.” “Cool!” “Here do you want a cookie?” “Sure, Marcus.” “I hope we get something cool at the school store.” “I hope so too.” “I am so happy because of the school store.” “Yeah! But we only have it once so we better have fun today”. “And we better find something good”. Then it happened…. All students were told to line up for the school store.
...
Nick sprinted so quickly. First, he fell off his lunch stool. Then, he got up and ran so fast he thought he was riding a race car. Then, he went down the hall he slid all around on the wet floor that the aides wiped up. Nick felt like he was ice skating, doing tricks, and flying through the sky. Nick felt like the happiest man on earth. FINALLY, they got to the school store. Then, he saw it!
Nick gazed at it with his mouth open. “WOW!” shouted Nick as he turned to look at price list on the wall. Then, Marcus came over. “Cool sharpener, I am going to take it,” Marcus said calmly as he reached out to get it from the bin. “No you’re not, I saw it first. I was just checking the price and then I was going to grab it.” “NO!” “YES!” “NO!” “YES!”
Then, Nick was so determined to have it that he just ripped it out of Marcus’ hand. “Give it back!!” Marcus screamed in surprise. “Give it back,” Marcus screamed again!
“Not happening and nope.” “I hate you meanie.” “I hate you too,” Nick shouted.” “Then we’re not friends anymore.” “Fine.” “Why would I want to be friends with a loser like you?” Nick shouted. “Well then we aren’t, bye jerk!” Marcus stormed down the hall. That’s when Nick screamed, “Wait!”
...
Marcus stopped in his tracks and turned around pouting, “What do you want, Nick?!” “I want to give you this.” In a rush of disbelief, Marcus couldn’t believe his eyes. “Really!” “Yes...really,” NIck responded, “Losing you as a friend is definitely not worth it.” “Thanks.” “You’re the best, best friend ever,” Marcus exclaimed while giving him a high-five. “So, want to play tag at recess?”
