There are famous people, fun activities, lakes, beaches and varied temperatures in Maine. Did you know that Maine’s capital used to be Portland, not Augusta?

There are a lot of famous people from Maine. Some of these are presidents and some are authors.
George W. Bush and George W.H. Bush spent some of their summers in Maine with their family. Consequently they were Maine's most famous people to come there in the summer. The Bush’s summer house was in Kennebunkport, Maine. They had a lot of fun.
E.B. White wrote Charlotte's Web. Actually, he lived in Maine for 28 years on a small farm with his family. He moved to Maine when he was little.
Stephen King has lived in Maine his entire life. He wrote horror books. He was born in Maine and went to college in Maine too. He loves Maine.

If you go to Maine you might want to fish, camp, or do both. Some of the well-known lakes in Maine are Moosehead Lake, Square Lake, and Big Lake. The biggest lake is Moosehead Lake it is 32 miles long and 5 miles wide. One popular beach in Maine is Wells. Another beach is Kennebunk.
You can camp in a cabin or a tent. If you go fishing you want to bring a lot of worms. The best time to fish is early in the morning or late at night. You can catch big fish or little fish. If you want to catch big fish you want to cast out far. If you want to catch small fish you want to cast close to you. If you don't want to camp or go fishing you can stay at a beach house where you can go swimming and make sand forts.

Maine is north of Connecticut Therefore it has a colder temperature there. The summers are about 75 to 80 degrees. There are only about 2 thunderstorms a year in Maine. You might think it is hot in Maine, but Connecticut is warmer. The hottest temperature Maine has ever gotten to was 110 degrees. The winters are cold and snowy. Maine can get a lot of snow. It can snow 30 to 60 inches yearly on average. In the winter the temperature can be 0 to 32 degrees. Would you believe the lowest it has been is -50 degrees?

Conclusion

The Bush Family loved Maine. Authors are found in Maine. If you want to fish or go to the beaches, Maine is the place for you, but you need to like the cold weather. Also you might want to fish and stay in a log cabin on a lake or you might want to stay in the city in an apartment building.  Maine is a great place to stay in the summer. But, not a great place to stay in the winter because it is very cold and snowy.
