November 5, 1775
Dear Diary,
I should introduce myself. I am Homer Sampson. I live in the Colony Connecticut and I am 12. I will be writing diary entries to tell about my life. I have black hair and brown eyes. I dislike loyalists. I like to play with pop guns.
The people in my family are my father, his name is Jared and he is a blacksmith, and my mother, her name is Emeline and she is a milliner. My only sibling is my brother Isaac. He is 13 years old. And I can’t forget my pet cat, Alex. We came to America from England for freedom from the king.
My family is not very wealthy, but we still have enough money to carry on in life. I have only one friend and his name is Seth. We like to play ball together and use pop guns. We also like to climb trees. We were on the same boat coming from England and we became the best of friends. Our parents became friends with Seth's parents and we became neighbors.
My house is made of wood. It has a wooden roof and a brick chimney. There is a large fireplace attached to the chimney. My family and I all sleep in the same room. My mother cooks on the fireplace. We are really healthy and have lots of food from the harvest.
I don’t think I can write much more because I think Isaac is still up, and I don’t want to be caught. I will have to get up early to do my chores tomorrow. I hope the cattle are alright. I must go to sleep now and await for a new day to begin.
