                      Bows Of War

Bows are very special compared to most weapons.  In these passages you will learn about : Biologically infected arrows, rocket powered arrows to exploding arrows, bows that are the size of a modern day rocket launcher to bows with  automatic reload, and English longbows. I bring you, BOWS OF WAR.

At the famous battle of Caffa in 1346, infected arrows and dead corpses in catapults that have fallen to the Bubonic plague were shot at the city of Caffa. You may be wondering, what exactly was the Bubonic plague? Commonly known as the Black death, it got it’s name because “black” can also mean misery, or pain or suffering. Also so many people died that it has death in the title. The Black death was so deadly that it was used in war. The damage it did to Caffa was large. The mongols (Genghis Khan) attacked Caffa of Ukraine. Historians believe over 15,000 people died in the battle but the casualties from the city are unknown, but were at an alarming size.

Other battles had biological warfare spread from bows and catapults as well. Such as in China and Europe. There were millions of dead bodies in these countries that face the iron fist of Genghis Khan. There were too many bodies to dispose of so they flooded abandoned cities.

Not just the black death was fired, it was other diseases that had infection rates going through the roof and has a high mortality rate. Historians believe that most spread of medieval diseases was from biological warfare. The tiniest bit of information that explains the chaos that this type of bow strategy proves that it is extremely lethal to all it fires upon.

The Nest Of Bees was like a rocket launcher that simultaneously fired arrows that were rocket powered into their enemies piercing through them releasing pain far more hurtful than an actual  nest of bees would. The nest of bees helped defend against nomad attacks from inner Asia. The nest of bees was like a rocket launcher, but instead of rockets it shot out 32 arrows in a full auto fashion. The nest of bees has proven itself in many sieges that it is one of deadliest among foes. The nest of bees has killed hundreds if not thousands. The nest of bees has also captured many soldiers and the lucky one’s  interrogated, but most of the time they were beaten to death.

The Nest Of Bees arrows are rocket tipped as well as rocket propelled. The arrows have proved to be able to go through some armor and even people! The nest of bees could have been deployed in big firing lines wiping out entire enemy ranks. The savage weapon is proven to kill dozens at a time.

Exploding arrows. Fact or fiction? They did exist. People have thought they were fake because they were in video games or the movie “The Hunger Games.” But exploding arrows were not like an arrow pulled from it’s bow and exploded on contact. Even if it was possible it would not go very far because of the weight of explosive could curve the arrow and might even break or bend the arrow which could hit friendlies or the shooter. But during the time of the Indians they had the granado technology. The exploding arrows were thrown as if they were bowlas, the archer would spin the bowla above their head for a couple of seconds to get their weapon charged up. When the bow is facing west or east they would throw it if they were facing north so the bowla would redirect towards the target they were aiming at. The grenade was held safe in a cloth pouch, the pouch was lit on fire so it would explode when the target was hit. But since lighters were not around until modern times they had to use tinder boxes or a torch. Though it was not like most bows some soldiers died or were wounded and even had friendly fire! Skilled archers were some of the only ones able to use this weapon of mass destruction. The bowla had one more disadvantage, it could break through the cloth. But if it is in the right hands, you better run for the hills!

One of the only bows with automatic reload is the Parker bow. It was made in 1984 and has become one of the biggest bow companies ever. The person who made this death dealing machine was Robert Bob Errett who is the founder and CEO of the business. Unlike most bows the compound bow has a automatic reload of which can help archers a lot. Instead of having to focus on reloading the bow they can just fire away with this crossbow. The weapon is used for hunting and archery, this bow is lightweight making it easier to carry around. But since it is a cross bow it can be harder to be mobile with it because the edges of the bow could hit the wall. This cross bow could have helped many of our ancestors such as indians or poland's army in WWII. The long range weapon has proven itself worthy of making this list.

The English Longbow was used for hunting and was used in warfare, mostly in the 100 years war against the french. The redcoats in the beginning of the war were winning because of the bow. But towards the middle of the war it’s rain of terror went down. The English longbow was key to many battles during the war the 100 years war. The English Longbow was a whopping 6 feet tall! Thousands and thousands were killed by the English longbow. The Welsh bow has been used mostly for fighting. The English had won the 100 years war and was victorious. Was it because of the supreme archery? Yes and no. In the beginning of the war the Welsh bows crushed the French but in the far end stretch it became a lot less useful.

Strategies  have played a big effect with these bows. One strategy is when the defending or attacking archer put their bows right above their heads then move the bows down until it is at the tip of their nose, when they released the arrows it would pelt the enemy and could wipe out dozens in just one strike!

Another strategy used by Genghis Khan was to attack the enemy with cavalry and even footmen and run. In three days the enemy would be brought to a mountainous terrain. After Genghis Khan’s men were safe the archers would shoot and kill all of their fatigued enemies.

Not just strategies, aftermaths, and the weapons and skills you mastered could make you win a war. It is studying your mistakes. The poor Indian tribes did not have this chance though.
Indian tribes sometimes joined together to fight a huge enemy. Before Pilgrims ‘discovered’ america there was 19 million Indians in America. If only 13 tribes united together and rallied where the pilgrims were invading and set up fires on the bay, they could have lit their arrows and fired and try burning par’s of the wooden ships. And they could have hit gunpowder and exploded the ships before they even arrived! Also, if the ships got near the tribes would be ready and able to fight off the remaining enemies.

Though there would be many losses these tribes would have looted these men and eventually learned how to use guns. The British might have arrived bringing gift’s for them because they crushed their enemies and possibly might have helped them build a small town! The tribes would have become one maybe, and could have tried getting other tribes to join them. If this happened America could have been an Indian run country.

Just because you have learned your mistakes and almost anything possible, there would always would be huge needs of archers in every medieval army to suppress, attack, or defend. It was never just the bow that played its part, and never the commander, for it always was the man that held his bow, sword, or spear in the heart of  battle.
