Shivshankar C.

Dear Diary,

My name is Shivshankar, and I am doing a report on whether I would rather live in colonial times or in the 21st century. I would rather live in the 21st century just like I am right now. Here are some reasons why I like the new generation more than the 1700s.

First, I am going to start it off with technology. I couldn’t be typing this now without tech. I am using a laptop. A laptop is a type of computer. Computers are one of the best inventions ever made with technology. They are incredible. This gadget can program almost everything. It is made completely out of electronic parts. You can use it for many things: work, music, school, games, and many others. It can be built as a 22 to 45 inch television (TV) screen. If it is 15 to 11 inches or smaller, then it is a laptop which is what I am using right now.

Our schools go from pre-k to 12th grade. In colonial times, kids went up to 8th grade  and stopped right there or either went to college. Now, we go to college after 12th grade. There are over 4,150 colleges now, than there were in colonial times. In colonial times, there were only 10 colleges. Now there are Ivy League colleges where you have to pay over $50,000. In colonial days, you didn’t have to pay as much.

For clothes we have thrift shops and stores to buy them at. You can find them at the mall. We have shorts and short sleeve shirts. We do not wear wigs, at least most of us don’t. Nobody wears long socks that go up to their knee unless it is for sports. Most people use sneakers to run. Some stores are Lord & Taylor, TJ Maxx, Gap, Brooks Brothers, and Nordstrom. There are so many ways to get clothes now a days.

These were my reasons for why I feel the 21st century is better than the colonial times.
I am glad I live in this new generation in the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Shivshankar
