Sophie B.

Adopted

(Dear reader, just know that this story is from the perspective of my
rescued dog, Daisy.)

“Uhhh, uh! This is not how I wanted to go out.” The crisp wind glides against your face and through your fur. Tears swell up in your eyes just before you accept that blinding white would be the last thing you see. Just then, a yellow beam of light hits your body and an astonishing warmth regains your hope. Then you black out.

“Uhh, what happened? How did I get in a fluffy cloth?” You wake up to a rumble of wheels on rocks and a squeak of car brakes. You look through the window to a big sign with enormous red and blue letters spelling “Petsmart.” “Is this Heaven?” you think quietly.

A beautiful young lady with a name tag reading Katherine leads you through the doors of the pet palace. She gently replaces the cloth wrapped around you with an even softer and fluffier navy blue blanket. She washes every bit of slush and mud out of your fur until you look like you’re wearing 1,000 layers of silk. She hangs the dripping wet towel and carries you all the way to your puppy luxury.

In your finely polished quartz cage, a ball pit of toys awaits. A leaf printed bed takes up half of the luxury and people line up to see you like you’re a famous movie star. But sadly, they’re only there to look. But you stay for 2 months, 3 weeks and 4 days, all of being treated like a princess. Then, a miracle happens.

A family called the Braults walks through the door. This family is looking for a new dog to make sure their other dog, Greta, has somebody to keep her company as long as she lives. Their other dog, Wesa, died, and Greta can’t live without a playpal. So there they are, right in the middle of the doorway. One quick glance of the perfect, wealthy looking family already makes you presume they’re angels, and I mean literally angels. they’re standing in front of a sunset and everything.

“I hope Greta likes our new pet.” The little girl tells the others. Out of your mouth comes a booming,“RUW RUW RUW!” and a marching band of click clicking and jingle jingling. (Which means,“HEY! HEEEEEY! HEY! CHOOSE ME! I WANT A HOME!”) You make more noise than any of the other dogs there. “What about this one? It does look super cute.” the little one says. You say joyfully back, “Thank you small but still tall creature.” Then the second tallest one with curling dark hair says calmly back with a hint of rudeness says back, “Let’s get it. But it’s probably gonna make a mess like Greta.” That’s when you come back with a, “Well, so much for cute.”

Sure you’re cute, but you don’t know how to make up your mind. Like when this happened:“YAY! CARRY ME! Oh, wait, no. HEY! I SAID CARRY ME! Why didn’t you let me stay on the ground? I’m independant.” “Man, this dog needs to learn how to make up her mind.”
“We’ll take this one and the materials… Lacy.”  The older lady says to the girl.   Lacy is a sweet teenager  working for the summer. At least that's what you see of her. “Okay, that’ll be $2,149.99.” Lacy says sweetly.   To myself I think, “Uhhh, I’m goin’ to sleep. Goodnight. Don’t care about the math.” The last thing you hear before you fall asleep is, “Awww, she looks so cute.” In a joyful, high pitch voice.
“Yawn, what’s up?” “Hey. Good morning, Daisy. Glad you’re awake.” “Daisy? Who’s- ohhh! I’m Daisy! Cool. Nice name change. I like it much better than Sky.” you say to yourself.  Now you look around and see yourself lying on a comfy, grass green couch with a new, polished collar. “This is my home and paradise.” “Bath time!” the tall one shouts. “Seriously? My first day here and relaxation? Uhhh. Classic. They better make it a bubble bath, or I’m flippin’ and floppin’.”
