Barbies are really cool toys. They let your imagination fly! Barbie has a lot of adventures, a lot of history, and an inventor with a fascinating background. Read on to learn more!
Ruth Handler has a lot of history with Barbies. Ruth Handler (one of the the inventors of Barbie), saw her daughter playing with her paper dolls and he thought that oh, I could make a better, more substantial toy then a paper doll. Ruth recognized that an important part of growing up was “pretend play." Barbie has a cool history. Barbie was introduced at the American Toy Fair in New York City. It was in February in the year of 1959. She was created by Ruth and Elliot Handler, the founders of Mattel Toys. Against Mattel’s wishes, they introduced “handsome” Ken in 1961. After returning from Europe with a Lilli doll produced in the mid-fifties, Barbie approached them with another creative idea. This information is amazing but there are breathtaking adventures that Barbie has had. Barbie has a lot of amazing adventures!
Barbie is from (fictional) Willows, Wisconsin. She attended high school there too. Four years before the man walked on the moon, Barbie traveled into space (1965.) Barbie has run for president 6 times since 1992, although Barbie never won the election. Lastly Barbie has been a great muse to lots of artists, for example Andy Warhol, and Peter Max. These adventures are cool but the Handler's background on Barbie is cool too.
Are you ready for some fun facts? Here they are! Did you know that the inventor of the Barbie doll were Ruth and Elliot Handler. Also that they made Barbies 11.5 inches tall. It appears that Barbie’s official birthday is March 9th. Guess what? The first Barbie was wearing a black and white swimsuit. By the way, Barbies first pet was a horse named Dancer. Also there is museum just for Barbie dolls. Skipper (Barbie's little sister) was Barbie's best friend. Barbie and her three sisters (Skipper, Stacie, and Chelsea) all enjoy skipping through each house they have. As you may have known (maybe), Barbie’s signature color is pink.(1992) The best selling Barbie was “Totally Hair Doll.” Her hair went from the top of her head to the bottom of her toes. But however, it does not matter how long or how short the Barbie’s hair is.
