Dear Diary,

How shall I begin? There is a lot of important things about this time, and that is why I am writing this for thee, but I guess I shall start by introducing thee to me. I like my overgarments but I wear a tan coif (1. www.clothingincolonialtimes.com) on my Lemon/Auburn hair I don’t like. My eyes are royal blue, or at least that's what my mom says. I have tan skin with freckles on my cheeks that I like. I were a linen shirt with a sleeveless leather waistcoat (2. cict.com) . My leather pants go to my knees where they meet my leather socks. My birthday is July 8, which is coming up, and I am 12 years old.
Now I will introduce thee to my family. My dad, Abraham is a successful farmer on the Mohawk river (3. History Alive). He grows wheat, corn, vegetables, and tobacco. (4. www.farminginthecolonies.com) My mom, Molly, and twin, Tabitha, usually work around the house because Tabitha can’t go to college (5.If you lived in colonial times ) Homer who is 18, is sadly at war.

We came to New York to explore the New World (6. HA) and also because we wanted better farming land than the hard soil in Europe. The soil is perfect for my dad because it is great for farming, especially on the Mohawk and Hudson rivers. First we moved to Massachusetts, but the soil was hard to farm with and the winters were not just snowy but they snowed all the time. When we moved to Georgia you couldn’t plant as much as you could in the middle colonies so we moved to New York, New York. There is lots of trading and shipping in New York harbor so it is a pretty popular place.(7. Ha) We live in a 3 story square house on the east side of the harbor (8. The New York Colony) It has a nice warm fireplace that heats the whole house. The other houses around look a lot ours. And my friend and I play ball in the yard.
I hope these entries will help thee find out about life right now in the new world.
Fare thee well,

Eli Jackson
