Candy Crisis

According to CBS News, researchers studied the diets and weights of 11,000 kids and teenagers. Teens who ate candy were 26% less likely to be obese than teens who didn't. For younger kids, the ones who usually eat candy were 22% less likely to be obese. So the sugar in candy isn’t much of a problem because you have a good chance of not being obese. So, the candy should be kept as is because businesses would lose money, people would be less happy, and children would be unhappy. Candy is reasonably-priced, it can help your health, and people love it. Why change it or discontinue it? Keep Hershey and Mars candy as is! They should of course keep the candy because why ruin many people’s days?!

One reason Hershey and Mars should continue producing candy as is, is because believe it or not, candy can help your body! Scientists published a study about people who eat candy as compared to people who do not eat candy. You might be surprised to learn that the people who eat candy live longer! Critics argue that chocolate has a lot of sugar but cocoa, the other primary ingredient in chocolate, can actually slow down the growth of cancer! It’s unbelievable, but it’s true: if you have cancer and if you eat cocoa on a regular basis, you can actually slow down the growth of the cancer in your body! Another way candy can actually help you, is that chocolate may also decrease the severity of heart disease, but it is not one hundred percent it will decrease. A last reason how candy can help is that there were studies completed at the University of Cincinnati that peppermint helps you concentrate more! Just imagine taking a test while eating a York Peppermint Pattie so you could possibly get better test scores!

Candy is affordable and that’s why it is so popular! One pack of Twizzlers is only $3.74, so many people buy it because of its great taste and great price! A normal bag of M&M’s is only $2.99, so it’s amazing power to not melt in the heat and the fantastic price on the candy may be why it is the most popular candy in the United States. One large York Peppermint patty is $3.54 so that $3.54 might help you get a good grade on your next test, if your teacher allows you to have it. One large Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is $3.54, so since it is one of the healthy candy choices it is well worth it. Michael Allured, publisher of Manufacturing Confectioner, a trade magazine, says, “It is comforting and relatively inexpensive.”

People are attached to candy so why discontinue it. People have a special relationship with some candy. For instance, people have favorite candies, and they have it with friends or family. So if you discontinue the candy or change it people could lose those wonderful relationships. They find it comforting. For example, when people get stressed they eat some sort of candy sometimes. After they eat the candy they could feel relieved so they would not be grumpy and ruin someone else’s day. Finally it could change your mood from angry to happy or from sad to excited and energetic. Wow candy can do a lot! No wonder why so many people love to have candy!

Many dentists and doctors argue that candy is bad for you because of the high amounts of sugar and that people should try and stay away from it. But studies show that people who usually eat candy live longer than those who do not, so in other words if you don’t usually eat candy you won’t live as long as a person who does usually eat candy. So it won’t hurt to have a little candy every month because your body can use that sugar for energy. Many children love to have candy, including me! I am pretty healthy for my age and I eat a lot of candy, so candy should be something positive to children. Iit could be a reward, not something negative. It is perfectly clear it will not hurt to have candy a couple times a month, so the candy should stay as is.
