Old English Sheep Dogs

Old English Sheep Dogs don’t have tails because they need to look like sheep in order to protect protect sheep from the wolves,they scare them away. A males height is usually 22-24 inches (56-61 cm) or more and their weight is normally 65 pounds (29 kg),a females height is usually 20-24 inches (51 cm) and females weight is normally 60 pounds (27 kg) but males and females weight can go over 100 pounds! Their outter coat is hard and shaggy and the undercoat is soft and waterproof.Old English Sheep Dogs are born black and white,they are recognized by their long and shaggy fur.They have big noses and flat ears. They do not shed.The lifespan of Old English Sheep Dogs in the U.K. and the U.S. is 10 to 12 years old. However,my dog lived till he was 14 years old. 1999-2013

Old English Sheep Dogs have good behavior in general. They get along with adults,kids, and other dogs and animals.They are easy to train with electric fences and to sit. They are a watchdog so if they see someone they don’t know they will bark and run around and jump on them,sometimes even scare them away.Old English Sheep Dogs act as watchdog as they watch and protect sheep. They will push (not bite or nip) any family member away from dangerous objects and people.They are very funny dogs too.

Old English Sheep Dogs come from England.Old English Sheep Dogs were first called “Shepherd’s dog” and was exhibited for the first time at a show in Birmingham,England in 1873. Old English Sheep Dogs were exported from the from the U.S. in the 1880s and by the turn of the 20th century, 5 of the 10 wealthiest American families bred and showed the Old English Sheep Dog.The breed was a popular show dog and still is today.

Old English Sheep Dogs need to have a daily run, walk,or jog.These dogs were developed for for hard work and love a good run.They are very energetic dogs, they love to play with kids and adults.They are always willing to play with you. You need to let them outside daily,they love the outdoors.

You will need a lot of supplies for all dogs.You will need food and  water so they can live, you need some toys and bones for them to chew on, they need to have collars just in case they run away.To care for a dog you need to play with them and give them treats when they are good and bones to give them to chew on.You need to brush them and pet them and give them a bed to sleep on and feed them.The most important thing to do is to care and love your dog.You need to give a lot of love and care to be a good owner.

Old English sheep dogs are healthy in general but they could get really sick,such as hip dysplasia,cataracts, glaucoma, entropion, thyroid problems, deafness, diabetes, allergies, skin problems, heat stroke,and cancer. Cancer is a major cause of death among Old English Sheep Dogs.
