A Fuzzy Friend
Dear Animal Lovers
One day when I was touring a new nature trail on my vacation in California I got bored and started looking for a new discovery for me and my zoologist partners to investigate about. I went off the trail when I saw something, or someone, flash by in the corner of my eye. So I followed it and it led me to a cave. That’s when I realized it was a new animal discovery. This animal is a five star discovery that I would definitely love to learn about. This species is called a “Beast”.
A Beast lives in the forest in the upper parts of California. She lives by mountains to stretch out her wings that blend in with her mixes of gray and brown fur. In the area that she lives in you can also find a river with lots of fish and other kinds of food. I gave her an x-ray and saw something I never saw before. She was a mammal with gills?? I could tell this because I saw a lung cage, gills and a belly-button. I had to move the x-ray around while she was lying down because she was so big. For example, she was as big as a pickup truck. And when she is threatened her eyes sort of glow in a greenish beautiful neon color, or she hides under the water and slows down her heartbeat, or lastly she hides in the sky. She is also warm blooded to be able to go up into the cold winds.
A Beast has claws that go in and out like fishing hooks or knives, or forks. Which is exactly what she uses them for. She eats fish, shrimp, bugs, hay, and weeds. But most of all her big, long, half sharp, half dull, teeth help her eat her favorite food, rocks. Once the rocks are crushed up, they use them on their young as sunscreen. And they help digest their food.
She is not prey. Though she is a predator of small sea life and tiny flying insects, she does not have any predators of her own. But if she were to have one in the future it would probably be us because of it’s beautiful fur and meaty body. The herd of eleven, plus babies, were together to scare off big animals, although the Beasts are harmless.
I hope you have learned a lot about this amazing and fascinating creature that reminds me of a giant wild dog. If you come across a Beast, act calm. And if you are thinking of getting very close to it, either be an expert, don’t get that close or else you’ll scare it, or let it come to you.
