Department
History
In 1622, the town of Fairfield started getting serious about having a police department. This was figured out 22 years after the town’s beginning in 1639.
In the 1800, there were 3,735 people in town. The 1926 shooting of Hezekiah Edward helped promote the creation of the Fairfield police department. Edward was a constable which means he was the lawman in town.
The police department was under the supervision of Arthur J. Bennett. The original police department was located on Post Road in Fairfield Center. After that it moved to the corner of Reef Road. In 1936 2 way radios were installed in the patrol cars.
In 1938 the department grew to 6 cars and 4 motorcycles, that doesn't seem like a lot in these days!
In 1942 the shifts change big time,it went from 2 12 hour shifts to 3 8 hour shifts.
That is the history of the Fairfield Police Department.
P-D Present
The Fairfield Police Department now employs about 230 employees who are fully dedicated to the welfare of Fairfield. The officers make the town of Fairfield a clean and wonderful place to live.
The department is a very interesting place to look around, plenty of sights to see and things to explore but you can't go unsupervised it is a very safe and fun place to be.

Police dogs
Ruger is a police dog at the department he can track down anything, he can even attack backpacks!(That was an inside joke.) He responds to his owner Kevin Wells who speaks German to this German Shepherd, he helps out fundraisers sniffs out bombs and liquor from criminals and is a nice companion too.
Hopeful future
The department is working like a well oiled machine hopefully it will run like that for the years. My dad works there. I would like to wish good luck to the Fairfield Police department many years and counting.
